A lot of people underuse the word user research
because it is widely believed that user research has to with the type of research you are conducting.
Most common myth i have found is “it is only a user research when you conduct user interviews.”
Really, ha ha?
Hi dearies, Iqmat here again…
Myth Buster😄
User research is any study activity that you take up to learn more about your users or target audience.
Users and audience in bold because that is the focus.
The approach taken for a user research could vary based on the expected outcome or one’s personal need at that point in time.
User research is not about the scope of the research or the approach of the research or the quantity of the research,
it is basically about the “who” of the research , that is the subject focus of the research.
If the goal of your research is to learn more about your users\target audience, to validate some hypotheses you have about your audience,
to observe trends and pattern about your users then it is a user research. A research is simply an investigation.
User research could be as little as you doing a background study into the documents and information that you have once gathered about your users.
Background study, user interview, focus group discussion, questionnaires and surveys etc are all a means to carry out user research,
they are all tools and approaches that could be used to carry out a user research.
What really qualify your research as a user research is about the “subject focus”
“who” are you trying to investigate more about, who are you trying to learn more about.
If it is not your user/ audience then it is not a user research.
